- DimXpert is part of the SWIFT (SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology) functionality found in SolidWorks.
- DimXpert for Parts allows you to completely detail designs without errors.
- Automatically dimension “manufacturing” features in 3D (parts), check the dimensional completeness of your design.
DIMXPERT TOOL IN SOLIDWORKS
DimXpert can be applied depending upon what part it is meant to be dimensioned for example
a) Prismatic part (ex: square plates)
b) Turned part (ex: Parts manufactured by lathe or any other machines).
Select the DimXpert tab in the SOLIDWORK
We get features as in
a) Auto Dimension Scheme
b) Location dimension
c) Size dimension
d) Basic location dimension
e) Pattern features
f) Datum
g) Geometric Tolerance.
Select the Auto dimension Scheme
- Select the Prismatic ( because the model is rectangular in shape).
- Select the Tolerance type as Plus or Minus (Geometric is used for models which are turned and have large geometrical complex shapes).
- Select Pattern Dimensioning as Linear.
- Now, Select the Reference Features
For Primary datum select plane 1 ( bottom of the plate)
For Secondary datum select plane 2 ( side of the plate )
For Tertiary datum select plane 3 (front side of plate ) - On the scope do select all features , we can filter the options which we need to dimension depending upon our requirements and select ok.
- Select the option Show Tolerances Status. The model turns green in color which indicates that all the dimensions are defined and are reflected.
- Location Dimensions helps in dimensioning manually by clicking the two opposite faces of the model.
- Size dimension helps in dimensioning the hole size and various different types of holes ( countersink, counter bore, straight tap etc.)
- Basic location helps in creating plane , width feature, compound plane, Intersection lines and hence dimension the model from the respective planes or intersection lines.
- Datum features helps in creation of datum at the faces or plane from where the respective dimension should be started, from this option we can optimize our datums.
