Dassault Systèmes’ cloud-based offering for Desktop SOLIDWORKS users, shows the evolution of traditional SOLIDWORKS software into a collaborative and connected platform. Transitioning from SOLIDWORKS Desktop to SOLIDWORKS with cloud services can be a significant change and has various benefits in terms of collaboration, accessibility, and scalability.
Platform integrated User Interface:
Other than small differences, SOLIDWORKS Desktop and SOLIDWORKS with Cloud Services have a similar user experience. In comparison to SOLIDWORKS Desktop, SOLIDWORKS with Cloud Services offers various additional features. Enabling SOLIDWORKS Desktop to work together with a variety of 3DEXPERIENCE platform apps and services, allowing for additional capabilities such as project management, lifecycle management, and real-time collaboration.
Multiple Save Options:
Unlike SOLIDWORKS Desktop, which runs locally on your PC, SOLIDWORKS with cloud services is cloud-based. It consists of two types of save options as follows:
- Save to this PC: It helps us to save the data locally on our PC.
- Save to 3DEXPERIENCE: It helps us save data on secured cloud storage in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
If you want to do the assembly in the 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS, you can insert the part directly from the cloud. Also, you can easily search the files in the cloud with the help of the 3DSearch app with 6W Tags.
Revision Management:
Revision management is one of the challenges faced by every design engineer. In SOLIDWORKS Desktop, there is no option available to manage the revisions directly. We need an PDM add-in to do the revision management, but in SOLIDWORKS with cloud services, after saving the file to the platform, it will automatically save as a first revision. If you want to create more revisions, select the file from the cloud and create the different versions of the product. It will save the design engineer lots of time in managing the revisions. All these tasks can be done from the SOLIDWORKS user interface.
Flexible licensing and additional web-based apps:
Dassault Systemes offers SOLIDWORKS desktop when integrated with Cloud Services with Named-User license. The named user licenses will be assigned to a specific user, and then the user can use the software and access the design anywhere, anytime. Using any device also enables better team collaboration and helps to quickly and efficiently make better decisions by connecting the right people with real-time information and tools on a single, unified platform. Additionally, keep in mind that there isn’t a server to set up or manage, which offers a secure location to store your design files while also drastically lowering your IT overhead.
