In general, <a href=\"https:\/\/ckonnect.in\/solidworks\/solidworks-3d-cad\/\">SOLIDWORKS<\/a> Assemblies may contain IP related information in the form of mechanisms, dimensions, design features, and components. These details are important and should not be shared outside the organization. SOLIDWORKS provides a useful tool called \u201cDefeature,\u201d which can aid in providing simplified representations of the assemblies\/parts while removing unwanted design details and features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tool provides the CAD data in such a way that it is easier to understand the overall geometry of the assembly\/part and not require the details of the original design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tool can be accessed from <strong>Tools &#8211; Defeature<\/strong> in drop down menu<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"365\" height=\"378\" src=\"https:\/\/ckonnect.in\/solidworks\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-12.png\" alt=\"How to Use the Defeature Tool in SOLIDWORKS\" class=\"wp-image-43777\" style=\"width:284px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ckonnect.in\/solidworks\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-12.png 365w, https:\/\/ckonnect.in\/solidworks\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-12-290x300.png 290w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 365px) 100vw, 365px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Defeature tool presents two different defeaturing methods to start with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:15% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"142\" height=\"142\" src=\"https:\/\/ckonnect.in\/solidworks\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"How to Use the Defeature Tool in SOLIDWORKS\" class=\"wp-image-43778 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Simplifies the geometry of the assembly\/part by removing the internal parts and features. This method is useful when the overall shape of the defeatured assembly\/part needs to closely match the shape of the original geometry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:15% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"157\" height=\"126\" src=\"https:\/\/ckonnect.in\/solidworks\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Picture2.png\" alt=\"How to Use the Defeature Tool in SOLIDWORKS\" class=\"wp-image-43779 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Simplifies the geometry of the assembly\/part by removing the internal parts and features and creating the silhouettes of the assembly\/parts. This method is useful when the overall shape of the assembly\/part need not match the shape of the original geometry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To demonstrate the effects of the Defeature tool, we will consider the example of a <strong>gear box assembly<\/strong> and try to defeature it. When the defeature, tool is executed, the tool removes all the hole features and the worm gear, which is the internal component. After removing the worm gear, the space is filled as shown as a solid body. By doing so, the shaft component also cannot be seen separately.
