Reuse an existing symbol from any 2D CAD or Schematic software by saving it as a .dwg file and importing it into the SOLIDWORKS Electrical symbol library, then defining circuit, connection point and attribute definition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThese are all valid and very useful ways to create custom symbols or symbols that don\u2019t exist in your library. There may be a few more methods as well. One thing that all of these methods have in common, however, is that they all require you to define at least one of the primary elements of the symbol completely from scratch. If you consider that your symbol library has thousands pre-defined, ready-to-use symbols by default, you can realize a more efficient way to create a custom symbol or symbol library than the methods described above. If there is a symbol in your library that\u2019s close to what you need, but not quite right, copy it from the existing symbol library and modify it based on your needs. The copy and modify method has the potential to save you a ton of time by recycling 2D CAD, circuit and connection point definition and attributes. Plus, once you modified a symbol to meet your needs you can save it as part of your library. Ready to go whenever you need it.<\/p>\n
The image below shows an Emergency Stop button symbol in the symbol editor and used in a circuit with manufacturers part and mark attributes displayed. Once you\u2019ve created a custom symbol, it can be permanently added to your library and used whenever you need it.<\/p>\n
