This balance is influenced by two groups of factors personal and physical.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000; font-size: 16px;\">The major objective of HVAC engineers is to create an environment, where every person can live in thermal comfort. However thermal comfort is a subjective sensation. So, the realistic aim is to create a thermal environment, which satisfies the maximum possible percentage of people in a given room<br \/>\ntaken as a group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000; font-size: 16px;\">When the personal factors have been estimated and the physical factors have been measured the thermal sensation for the body as a whole can be predicted by calculating the Predictive Mean Vote index (PMV) and thermal discomfort can be predicted by calculating Predictive Percent Dissatisfied<br \/>\nindex (PPD) equivalent to thermal discomfort.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000; font-size: 16px;\">The PPD index (Predictive percent Dissatisfied), obtained from the PMV index provides information on thermal discomfort by predicting percentage of people likely to feel too hot or too cold in the given thermal environment. Even though a person feel thermally neutral for a body as a whole, it<br \/>\nmay not be comfortable if some parts of its body are warm or cold.
